The scenario you mention is faulty. Why do you believe the government would extort people to tesitfy? They don't need any new information or technology to do that. They just don't do it.

That is not to say that individuals aren't given options in plea arrangments predicated upon their testimony. There isn't a problem with that.

Maybe I misunderstood your post, but if you believe the government would threaten to expose gay activity for testimony in a crime, you are way off base. If the person has knowledge of the crime, that is enough to compel testimony.

Well it is happening under Bush. He has led us into a sorry state where religious intolerance and incredibly powerful central government is combining to create a nation that is a far cry from an open democracy..

You have a scary, (but not altogether unrealistic) vision of the future.

Let's hope that somehow the public will wake up to this creeping Authoritarianism, and the steady decline in their freedom... and do something about it.
