The company simply cancels the outstanding option grants and makes new ones.

I'm sorry, I just don't buy this as a standard practice. Do you have examples of where this has occurred? I've certainly never heard of this happening in the industry among proven technology companies.

I am not sure if you really care, but the tax law requires that the old options simply just can't be amended, you should leave them alone and issue new.

Purely a tax thingy.

But if the sole purpose of your post was just to snipe and harp and bitch, then sorry, didn't mean to interrupt.

Just go right ahead and vent and spew. There is nothing quite as helpful as issuing opinion after opinion on shit you don't quite understand. But it does give me a headache.
