Apple's improvement is on a rising exponential curve. That's a heck of a lot - I don't see how you can expect more.

I think MSFT is worried that it is not temporary and that would be a big reason to put out the hype on the vaporware of their next operating system right before Apple releases its next operating system. I also think that Apple has something else up its sleeve for release later this year to keep the momentum going.
