S2,

<For Americans, however, it can still seem shocking to think of Vietnam as a country, not a war.>

What a fascinating article. The statement above - I wouldn't have used the word "shocking", but the point still holds true for me. For Scooter, it's probably an entirely different view which is wonderful...and hopeful.

Vietnam has always been a tough pragmatic country. Uncle Ho successfully fought the Japanese, Chinese, French, the South Vietnamese and the Americans. These were all territorial and/or political opponents for him. Now they face an economic opponent, particularly with the Chinese. They're smart and they'll figure it out unless all the old guys from the north who were trained in the Soviet Union business schools choke the growth with bureaucracy.

Again, great article. Thanks.

p.s. my oldest daughter is training for the Chicago Marathon next Fall, she wants me to run the last 10 miles with her. I'll buy you a beer afterward.

Very good article, Scott.

It was right on the money. There is so much hope and optimism there.

Of course they want cars like everyone else, the place is already choked with traffic. I hope they find a new path to follow, where the personal car is not the ultimate goal...

We just had another couple tell us they are in for this year's trip to Vietnam, so...looks like it may be a group of 10! yikes.
