When people like Coulter and Delay become the standard of quality for the GOP i never said they were the standard for quality in the Republican party. You cannot lump them together any more than you can lump Clinton and Rather together. (Actually, they both lied, so maybe you can; but I hope you know what I mean.) In past posts, you have spoken highly of both. What is one to believe? Nine of the top ten junket recipients are Democrats. You'd better line them up before you pillory Tom DeLay for it. It is just convenient that he had a recomendation that his travel expenses were reported correctly, and then the Democrats refused to meet. You don't think Delay is the only guilty Republican, do you? Ann Coulter is abrasive. She is a lot like Maureen Dowd, only she is not tied to one liberal publication. She is funny in a sarchastic way. I have watched her on TV shows being rudely interupted and treated badly. She does not tollerate it long and starts behaving just as rudely in a more obvious way. Most liberals I hae seen her matched with try to keep her from saying anything at all. I have watched her be over-the-top-rude from the get go even when everyone else is trying to be cordial. Bottom line.......she's a sick chick! "If Harry Reid is arranging bribes to be paid to his son, it is wrong. If Jim McDeromott is illegally releasing tapes to the media, it is wrong (and the courts convictd him of it). If Bill Clinton is raping women, attempting to rape other women, lying under oath, and everything else he did, it is wrong. If Bob Packwood is doing the same kind of stuff as Clinton (except lying under oath) it is wrong." There is GOP wrong and the rest of the world's wrong. Don't confuse the former with reality. If any of those people are found quilty as charged, then I am all for it. However, in the 5 years since I've watched the political scene more closely, it seems the GOP is the party with the most perpetrators of criminal activity. Clinton was convicted. He was convicted of nothing. He was impeached and his law license pulled. That's not a conviction. Its a punishment. You defended him. I defend him because I thought the GOP's accusations were spurious and silly. Tom DeLay has not been convicted yet you ave attacked him as if he were guilty. I attack Tom Delay not because of his illegal activities [although they suck] but because of his arrogance and misuse of power. I have said that repeatedly to you and still, you ignore it. You defend Democrats because they have not been convicted. Use the same standards both ways. If a Dem behaves like Delay, I will be all over him like a bee on honey. Well informed? You're kidding? "No, just read the bibliography in one of her books. Afterword you will be allowed to retract that comment. You don't have to read the book, just the bibliography. the woman is well read and concise." So what? There are a lot of well read people who are badly informed. In comes from reading only what you want to hear. However, my issue with Coulter is not her intellect and her knowledge, but its her rude and abrasive manner and her ability to use hyperbole in the most destructive and slanderous of ways. Anyone who behaves like Coulter should be treated accordingly. Its clear that Coulter is very literate and very articulate and she uses that ability to pommel her enemy with disgusting and irreverent venom. The fact that she is a GOP icon suggests that GOP standards have been lowered. Having said that, there are some conservative media like NRO that refuse to publish her articles. When more do the same, my respect for the right will go up but not until that happens. IMO you all need to be less concerned with power and more concerned with self policing. You had sounded like you thought she was a dimwitted bimbo (paraphrase). She has a place in the public forum. Its too bad you think she has a place in the public forum. Frankly, she does nothing to further the cause of the right. In fact, she diminishes it. At some point in the future, the worm will turn and the right's causes will be in the descendant. At that time, all the chits accumulated due to the Coulters and Hannitys of the GOP world will come due. And you all will pay a very steep price. Mark my words. The hate engendered by Couler, Hannity, Rush etc has left its mark. I, for one, will never vote for another GOPer as long as I live. ted
