God forbid Bush should interfere with your sit-coms and reality shows.

I still haven't heard any rationale for why it was essential for me and everyone else to receive that tidbit at the very time when we may have been looking forward to watching The OC. Or for Fox to broadcast it at a time when it was looking forward to earning big bucks from broadcasting The OC. You still haven't given me one. Unless you have one, further comment is pointless. Sure, SS is more important than TV shows in the grand scheme of things. But that's not the point. The point is whether conveying this particular tidbit about SS at this particular moment was more important than the money the networks would have made or the satisfaction of the citizenry.

The notion that any arbitrarily timed pronouncement from the President means that the country should snap to is just too authoritarian and arrogant to be healthy in our society. This is not a medieval royal court where kings had outsized egos and everyone else found it "healthy" to swoon before them.

Besides being in poor taste, it's also not smart. When you're trying to sell something that has been proving to be a hard sell, you put it before your customers in a way that will maximize their receptivity to the message. You don't jerk them around or try their patience. I realize that you have an affinity for the commander/underling style of doing business so may not be receptive to my point about style, but what he did was both anti-business and poor salesmanship and I would think those would resonate with you.
