Related stuff happens in e-mail, too. I rent a studio apartment in Reno and I cannot count the number of re-fi offers I've had for my property at... ... .... Unfortunately, the owner of the apartment complex frowned on the idea of me getting a loan on my apartment.

Yes, there is way too much information floating around.

Just too much information floating around in charities too. I have received requests for donation from charities from all over the U.S. We usually gave donations at the end of the year and last year I decided to give when their request came in and this year I have been bombarded with them. Just go to file 13 now when they come in and again going to do it at the end of the year. I do save the ones that I know are legitimate and worthy so will pull them back out in December.

Parents just have so much to contend with these days with information about their children. An ID number is much safer than a SS number.

I too have been the victim of an identity theft, but thanks to a police detective, I was notified about someone that had been charged with fraud whose computer had my SS number on it and advised me before my SS was used as they had been arrested.
Now, it is on my credit record reports for seven years and I will make sure when that time runs out to ask for that protection again.

I don't remember when they started making wives get their own credit cards under their husand's accounts, but when that happened I had a hard time with one of the large department stores here and I told them I had used our original card for over forty-five years and they wanted me to apply for my own credit card. I also told them I was the only one that used that credit card and their records would prove that. I told them they could stick that card where the sun doesn't shine and canceled the card for eternity and told them I would refrain from shopping in their store and I really did not need their card any longer. I still occasionally get letters from them for me to apply for credit and those too go in file 13.

Stick to your principals and let them know you are watching what information is released about any of your children. Good for you.
