I've gotten much of my dad's mother's side from internet cousins but on my family name I hit a wall back at the 1900 census because everyone knew my gfather's name as "Ham"(even his social sec cert shows same) but census for the area he should have been living at that time does not indicate a "Ham" but does show a Hamilton.I never did know his (my ggfather) father's name.I thought I knew some of my gfather's siblings names, but it turns out, its most likely their middle names and not their first, so when I compare to the 1900 census I start to get a headache because nothing matches.
I don't know how hard it might be to get a birth cert.for someone going back to the early 1890's in GA. or am I just throwing my money away as Hamilton might not even be the person I'm looking for.
