brokers do not report your cost price to irs. only sell price. so if you keep your own records what is the problem.?

i see nothing wrong in calculating what stocks you are selling against total number of stocks held. If you have various purchase dates you determine the purchase date on 1040d. of course i am not talking if you are classified as a trader. no experience in those matters.
