Don't you find it funny that the dems so vehemently defend what they themselves claim is a regressive tax?

BTW, since the "rich" tend to be less dependent on SS in retirement than the poor, perpetuating the current scheme (rather than replacing it with private accounts and true disability insurance) is a rip-off that harms the poor MUCH more than the rich.

Whose side are the Dems on again?

PS: Did you know that if you look at income taxes alone, the 2001 and 2003 tax acts actually made our tax system MORE progressive, not less so? It's only when you evaluate it based on ALL federal taxes, including payroll and excise taxes (e.g. gas and tobacco), that the Bush tax cuts appear to reduce the burden on the "rich" relative to the the poor and middle class.
