The ratio of civilians killed to "enemy combatants" killed was worse in WWII than it was in Vietnam. Even the Arclight raids were probably more precise than WWII bombing, and in WWII we went after cities reguarly. In Vietnam we didn't send "fleets of B-52 s" or any other type of aircraft to level Hanoi.

The ratios are vastly improved these days in Iraq, but still bad enough that a lot of Iraqis see the USA as wanton murderers. So do a lot of Italians. And others.

Perceptions can be important but I'm talking about the reality not perception.
