awhhh you actually have me shedding a tear for Mr Mcnealy who faces "carping" critics and a financial community "breathing down his neck." I really feel for the guy. He's got it tough.
He really has no creativity as a CEO and shouldn't really be running a large company...a real one trick pony. a nuts and bolts oprations guy who is also very glib and salesy. He does have a nack for getting rich and comfortable and there is nothing wrong with that. It requires a certain talent to be able to get extraordinarily rich primarily at the expense of others. this isn't the ideal lbo which is one reason I think its a pump and dump. you need steady and consistent profits to lbo a company. the net cash at this company is always overstated by pundits because they don't net it out against debt. what silver lake would do would be to ash can all the pie in the sky projects as well as SPARC, which is all but dead anyway. They then would slash costs to the bone and perhaps get out of storage...they might also use some cash to buy service companys. I would be very surprised if Mcnealy was a part of the plan. It would be a way for him to slink off quietly, at the same time promoting the move as a win for shareholders.
