I was looking at the investment options in my wife's 401K through Vanguard -- 8 or 10 funds, and the money market is the best of the lot over the past 5 years by a wide margin, and only one other was even positive. That kind of stagnation takes it's toll on the permabulls.

I just looked again at short interest numbers. It looks like mostly short interest was increased in energy stocks.

There seems that be a deeply ingrained belief -- reflecting the action of Greenspan inspired bubble markets over many years -- that bears cannot ever be correct except over a fairly short period of time.

Bullish sentiment and market action are assumed to be the norm -- bearish sentiment and market action are just brief deviations from this norm. The rapid rebound from the 2000-2002 bear has further reinforced this belief.

I suspect this bullish bias is going to be severely tested this year and next.
