It is certainly silly, except for the psychological impact. Such shift would imply that a particular group (Arabs in this case) has more trust in gold than in USD. And if eventually there is no trust in USD by the majority of population....

well for example South African gold mines are nearly out of business because gold is priced in dollars and the value of their currency has gone up relative to the dollar
