In fact, that is not a doctored photo. This 24-Hr Fitness is in a nearby neighborhood, and I have seen these escalators. (I haven't been on them, though. No way am I going to take an escalator right outside of a 24-Hr Fitness... I would feel SO silly...)

While the photo is not doctored, it is a bit deceptive. It's not a stand-alone 24-Hr Fitness. It's in a 2-story neighborhood mall. (Sort of a super strip-mall.) I don't think 24-Hr Fitness was there when the mall was built, though not sure what was there before.

Keep in mind it's in sunny San Diego. I can think of quite a number of outdoor escalators here. Most shopping malls here are not enclosed, but many of them are multi-story. Horton Plaza, Fashion Valley, etc. have outdoor escalators.
