The things you learn from google - mexicanos have known for years that an italian socialist in the 1870s or so named his baby boy for presidente Benito Juárez .... now, this just in from the East - 'In Marco Polo's travel journal he states that the people in Italy with the surname Mussolini are descendants of merchants from the city of Mosul.'

There will be a lot more connections in this area that joins three continents, people had to pass through there, all the time for thousands of years, and it would have seen an outsize proportion of traders, goods flowing through, contact with arts and sciences ... so the man who got twentieth century fascism rolling was sort of in a way named, 'Liberal Merchant', that's a bit odd ... i'd forgotten about your thread there, AV, interesting header

Thanks for that list. I'm not really surprised.

I notice that quite a few references are to "Spanish Islam", but the inventors were perhaps more Spanish than Islamic.

But so what if there were 1000 year old inventions? I'm not much interested in some ancient history in regard to pretty simple discoveries.

What matters is what's going on nowadays. In the 20th century and 21st century, there's nothing much but carnage coming out of the Moslem world. They have been resting on 1000 year old laurels.

The %age of jihadis is quite high at about 10%. Which is about the same number of cranks in any religion [or any group]. 10% is scraping the bottom of any barrel.
