But a network television reconstruction of the incident based on satellite imagery claimed US troops opened fire three seconds after the car appeared.

Makes one wonder.

It was night.

At 60 mph a car covers nearly the length of a football field in 3 seconds.

The troops surely wanted to stop the car before it could reach their positions...so add another 150 yards or more to when they had to start shooting.

Folks in Iraq know what checkpoints look like and how to behave when approaching one. The driver had a responsibility to slow down.

The mere fact that there were some survivors proves that fire discipline was used. This was no hot-dogging. They shot to stop the vehicle.
