Read and learn:

vietnampix.com

"..it has been said that no one has ever developed an adequate defense against guerrilla warfare. They wore no uniforms, dressed in the same type of clothing as the local peasants, and blended into the landscape when their mission was complete. The VC would periodically launch hit-and-run attacks on government installations, military outposts and even district towns in the South. Its most celebrated victory was at the village of Ap Bac in early 1963, when VC soldiers inflicted heavy casualties on the Southern Vietnamese units."

This is what led us to Mi Lai.

You should see "The Fog Of War". You'll find Robert McNamara's candid confessions enlightening. The entire War in Vietnam was based on a big lie. And we didn't know what the F we were doing there. McNamara only learned 25 years later that the North Vietnamese hated the Russians and Chinese. They were just trying to take their country back from a corrupt regime in the south and we intervened, so they HAD to take arms from the big commie powers to have any chance against us.

Lesson is: When you lie to start a war, you lose.
