Americans have one of the lowest cigarette smoking rates among developed countries. Cigarette smoking is by far the biggest lifestyle threat to longevity. So, Americans should have been the longest lived among developed nations, if our health care system worked as well as theirs.

I think you are running out of excuses for the abominable performance and cost of our health care system.

>>I didn't trot it out, you did.<<

When you write a post about crack addicts and crack babies and murders, it's obvious that you are talking about blacks, even though you don't specifically mention them, to be politically correct. I am sure you know that the rate of crack addiction among blacks is far higher than among whites and most crack babies are black. And also, that the murder rate among blacks is an order of magnitude greater than among whites.

You know, I have still been reading your posts with interest on occasion. You are sort of a fascinating character.

YOu seem to have a couple of modes. One of them is to criticize any and everybody--as unhappy, self-destructive, making wrong choices. Could be your clients, a lady you rented to, Americans in general, a criminal who broke in, etc. Even your own husband whom you point out that you dearly love, apparently works for the lucre and is boxed in and unhappy as a result.

THere just seems to be in your worldview, nobody that you speak of with genuine joy, admiration.

The other is to try to help those self destructive individuals find a better way, but somehow, they just usually don't listen. But sometimes you are simply critical, and other times you are critical with sympathy and trying to lend a hand.

Now, I have a question. Is there anybody whom you spontaneously, deeply, joyously admire? Who you think is doing a good job with their lives? We are all imperfect human beings but sometimes you remind me of Hans in the Snow Queen who got the sliver in his eye.

You are obviously a hardworking individual who has done the best she can to make a good life for herself. But you seem eaten up (to me, who reads your posts from time to time for a year now) with some kind of insecurity or self-bitterness or SOMEthing that comes out in general as a highly critical view of people from all walks of life who intersect with your life.

Just fyi that's still how it seems to me and I find it curious. I hope you are basically content with your life. Life is short. We're a mere spark of a moment in geological time, and in fact, nothing out there in the universe really gives a hoot if our investments work out modestly or fabulously. We have to enjoy what we have, and try to surround ourselves with people we like and admire.
