It would be nice if the habitat would be preserved. A few of us were discussing the problem of people trying to see the bird to add to their life lists, but I read a short article a day or two ago that said that the area where it was sighted is full of Cottonmouths, so I guess that could be a bit of a deterent! <g>

Spring is late here. It was also sort of odd. About 3 weeks ago, things were so dry that I was wondering if we might be in for a drought year. I was in doing frog call surveys at a few local swamps and didn't hear a thing. Then it started raining, and now the ground is soggy and the rivers are really running. I was checking out a few of my favourite smaller creeks this a.m. and I wouldn't even dare drop the canoe in as they are swollen up to the banks and really pushing water through at a great rate. These are the kind of small creeks with a lot of snags and overhanging branches, so there's no way I'd want to be zipping along down one of them just at the moment. Also, it's been cold most days (40-50F), so flipping and getting soaked wouldn't be too amusing. (o:

Btw, got any good trips planned for this summer?

I'm probably going to spend part of mine down in Nova Scotia (hiking but thinking of taking the canoe along). Also thinking of taking off to do some hiking and maybe a bit of paddling up along Lake Superior. I have a friend building a cabin up that way and thought it might be nice to trip on up to visit for a few days, but take my time going up and back.
