Factory farming is more efficient in the short term. I'm not sure it is the best way to go long term. I would rather reduce the need for factory farms by reducing human population.

Bird Flu may do just that in the near future.

I think more people might come to realize that it is not healthy to eat a lot of meat or dairy products. Certainly there are books being written showing a lot of research that proves the connection between diet and health. And young people in America are turning away from meat much quicker than older ones. If PETA and other animal rights organizations could advertise a bit more, I am sure that many reasonable people would gradually change their eating habits. Really, most people don't know about factory farming because the meat producers have tried to keep it a huge secret. But it is so gross, that as word gets out I am sure some changes will occur.

One the primary reasons to eat less meat and dairy is because these products cause cancer, heart disease and diabetes. These diseases are killing so many Americans! Who wouldn't want to have a healthier diet if if meant feeling good and not being sick?
