There WAS a good old days, if you came from a very healthy, happy family where your dad didn't punch your mother or beat you with a belt or insist that girls weren't much good for anything. I think every era has its good and bad things. As parents, people who remember the healthier things about several decades ago can recreate those good things for their children by being thoughtful and conservative about issues like tv and video games and fast food restaurants. A lot of families suffered in silence during those days, though, and that wasn't good either. And a lot of abused women stayed in horrific situations because it was very difficult for women to earn a living and support their children on their own. There was tremendous social pressure to keep families intact, even very unhappy ones where everyone ended up very damaged.
