My point about reality instead of perception was in response to - "that a lot of Iraqis see the USA as wanton murderers. So do a lot of Italians. And others. "

I'm talking about reality not perception, if Maurice Winn or if you want to assert that the Americans in Iraq really are wanton murders then you would be making a statement about reality, not about how someone else perceives reality. An incorrect statement about reality but still a statement about reality.

The fact that some Iraqis or some Italians see the American army as a bunch of wanton murderers doesn't say much about the American army. People can perceive things anyway they want to. Are you asserting that the American army in Iraq is a bunch of wanton murderers or not?
