unless you think prostitution and B&E is productive)

The cops and jailers I know sure are thankful for these people - else they couldn't be paid to drive around in a new car and eat doughnuts and wave guns around.

We tried prohibition right - it was a failure no? You can't legilslate morals right? People are just a few DNA strands away from beasts of the wild right?

Why are you against prostitution when you believe in free exchange?

How do you feel about big tobacco and liquor companies? Think there is any profit in there? I dare say the legal drugs have a far more widespread population of users. Almost all my old addict friends, the ones who are still alive, gave up the illegal drugs but still use the legal ones. What is funny and on topic is that they all did this right around the time when they decided to go straight and buy a house! Somehow having to make a mortgage payment every month had a more sobering effect than any other inducement.

OK Grace I defy you to tell me what was accomplished by prohibition.

As for your friends .... some make it some dont. Are we supposed to give a house to every drug addict? They changed because they WANTED to change. No more no less. The rest died. If they want to die in peace without robbing anyone then let them. It would be good for the crime rate to.
