There are lots of people from northern African and Muslim countries trying to get into Europe. The European countries typically make it very difficult to get full citizenship, and have guest worker programs that are not particularly helpful to the guest workers. I think it's safe to assume that if Europe had a very long, relatively porous border with Mexico, there would be lots of Mexicans trying to get in. That certainly does not support the argument that Americans have a comparatively wonderful standard of living, however.
