Apple's sales are close to flat from five years ago...

You are confusing calendar and fiscal quarters. In January '00 Apple reported sales of 1.4M for the previous quarter, in January '05 Apple reported sales of 1.0M for the previous quarter. Relative to '00, unit sales are down signficantly for the fiscal year; only this very last quarter can be considered flat.

As for the Dell numbers, whether you use the 2.5M or the 3.2M number is irrelevant. Bottom line, they have climbed dramatically.
