I was using the term self determination as it is described in the dictionary: "2: determination of one's own fate or course of action without compulsion". In other words the right to make one's own decisions about one's life.

It doesn't need child like innocence or successful psycho-therapy, IMO. You have a right to your opinion, but I disagree with the idea of defining the term with a view to exclude those whom one may think are unworthy of the right.
