One thing about the PC business ... of each of the seven PC vendors I listed market share for last quarter, only one of them has definitely grown it over the past 5 years: Dell. Acer might have, too, but there's no way to know without buying an IDC subscription since IDC didn't include Acer's CY 1Q00 numbers in their quarterly press release way back then.

Yes, Apple has lost market share over the last five years, but so have HP, IBM, Fujitsu Siemens, and Gateway, even though all of them (except Gateway) grew unit shipments from CY 1Q00. It's become a tough business, and no wonder it's seen so much consolidation in recent years.
