I really understand how PETA can attract a lot of workers who do not need a lot of money. Animal rights is a very spiritual path. It is almost like missionary work. I gave up meat and eggs and dairy products partially because I wanted to be as healthy as possible, and partially because after I found out about factory farming, I could no longer justify eating them. What I didn't expect was that as a result I felt much more connected to everything on earth, much more peaceful, much less materialistic, more patient, and more religious in the best sense of the world. It is like a calling.

That's a reasonable explanation.

But it does seem to ignore the fact that the 13% operating margin that PETA derives is not pumped back into the employee pool. And the fact that Walmart employees are, in fact, much better compensated.
