Could it be that companies are delaying their purchases of PC/Servers until the dual core- 64 bit-Longhorn operating system get launched in full? If so we could expect a lull even though the replacement cycle from the Y2K purchases are due?

Maybe.... Frankly, I really don't think that makes a difference. If you need a new box you buy it. The server market is still doing pretty well and any upgrades to the new stuff will, like it has been in the past, be incremental.

No one that I talk to says the next whiz-bang feature from Intel or Microsoft is a must-have tool that will distance them from the pack.
