But what worries me is the fact that we are now importing more food than exporting.
With modern technology and still cheap labor, the third world can produce at lower cost than us. Hence we import. American agricultural land falls out of use because it can't compete.

Simple way of summing up part of your statement is that 1 Bil Chinese want to live like us. Resources won't allow it, so we are competing for the same pie; our share will diminish, and our standard of living will drop.

Old stuff, but remember hemp? I was at a post-carbon talk last night and mentioned hemp. The Willits folks thought it was great; my homies want to kill me. "It will seed our smoke." Told ya growers wouldn't think much of it. "Oh, flax is good".
Good. A better way than CAMP of wiping out potheads. :-)
