SAN JOSE, Calif. — Silicon foundry specialist X-Fab Semiconductor Foundries AG reported quarterly sales of 37.9 million euros ($48.8 million), up 22 percent versus the same period last year.

X-Fab (Erfurt, Germany) recorded a net income of 2.3 million euros ($2.96 million) in the quarter, compared to a net income of 4.1 million euros ($5.3 million) in the first quarter of 2004, which had been substantially boosted by currency translation effects.

In 2004, X-Fab reported sales of 142.4 million euros ($178 million), up 40 percent from 2003. Net income was 6.7 million euros ($8.6 million) in 2004, compared to a net loss of 26.2 million euros ($33.7 million) in 2003.

Going forward, X-Fab said the "longer-term visibility has decreased due to the weaker economic environment in the industry."
