40 kph isn't high speed. The Italian investigators found that the soldiers didn't act correctly. I've been around long enough and seen and read enough to know that USA soldiers can be very trigger-happy gun nuts. I dare say Iraqis all know it too. The captors told the hostages to look out for Americans near the airport! I would say everyone in Iraq knows that the slightest wrong move and there will be a wild fusillade. Remember the sports hero who was killed by American 'friendly fire'. Not very good target identification.

I think the perceptions are true, not awry. You think their perception is wrong, but I think your perception is wrong [not to mention biased, which is of course a time-honoured basis for a judge, for example, to not hear a case to do with his children].
