You sound like you know the layout of the UC System, but your ignorance of UC Davis as the world's finest viticulture and enological research institution leaves me wondering just what you *do* know. FWIW, the Aussies have // are pulling ahead of the Americans in enology, as they use govt money to pursue research while the American govt won't contribute. Most Oriental students prefer UCD over the others, as they come to learn not play. Highest suicide rate in the nation for colleges is UCD. The finest veternarians I have EVER met come from UCD or Univ of Colorado. UC Davis MD's are perhaps some of the few that do their homework. I do not use MD's except for trauma, however if I had my choice, UCD would be it. Berkley can dry up and blow away since it is such an anal-retentive, porch-climbing, NAME ONLY institution sporting tonnes of cash for physics research, and how to pump egos to the point of bursting but not quite. UC Santa Cruz is sort of more like the Cal.State system than the UC System. I attended CalPoly for my Masters and felt like it was a high school trade-school compared to my undergrad work at UCD. CalPoly is a joke compared to UCD, but don't go telling that to any CalPoly students. Just ask them WHERE their professors came from......75% come from UCD. disclosure: I am a fermentation scientist from UCD. I have visited most campuses of the UC System. San Diego sucks but has good curriculae, Berkley is only for egoists so that is why they have so many top notch graduates......but FEW world class researchers which can work as a member of a TEAM, although the name BERKLEY attracts them, they could not learn the physics anywhere else.....so by default they MUST go to Berkley or overseas; (the dude that discovered prions as in Mad Cow came from UC San Francisco, fwiw), and Davis is only for those who want to learn, not play. That means not play *at all* if you are interested in anything better than a C grade. Many aren't. Regards, Matin Thomas
