TEOTWAKI is when people stop using gold coins to buy chickens and that world ends and people use virtual spells in Sony EVERQUEST online to slay dragons. Some slay the dragons now like CHEN killing people in BLOWUP deathmatch but still have not made the mental breakthrough that in the past 100% of mans waking moment was chasing a chicken to eat, and in the future about 100% of his time will be chasing NEO through the matrix - red or blue pill - take your pick. Before man stood up - 100% of his time was chasing bananas - before then he came up out of the oceans 100% of his time was chasing shrimp or fish - before an evolved animal 100% of his time was absorbing more proteins and molecules in the cess pools being struck by lightning in ancient earth. Before then he was just a bunch of free flowing particles in space sticking together from gravity - he spent all his time just sticking to other dust balls - amazing eh? Neuromancer is a good book to read to understand TEOTWAKI. Or just go watch the movie THE MATRIX - the majority of people were not chucking spears at mastadons or slaving away tilling fields just to survive - that world is dying.
