From one mechanical engineer to another - welcome to the world of options. What a wonderful educational background it is. Yes there may be more money it bits, bytes, and being a corporate IT wizard, but we live in a mechanical world. I have a firm grasp of exponential decay - as in the decay of the amount of crude left in a field. I can imagine surface tension, voids in rocks, water intrusion, pumping too hard and having an oil film break, never to be restored because there is water between oil globules.

As for options...did you get far into control theory??? Does negative feedback ring a bell...putting the "poles" of your account transfer function over into the left half plane...stepping on the gas a little harder (by holding fewer bonds or maybe going on margin a bit) because you have put in some DAMPING to take the ringing out?? The analogies never end.

Options are wonderful.
