Well that is a good prescription for savings and one that I advocate strongly. It has worked amazingly well for me and my husband.

Still, you have to do something with your savings. If you simply bury it in the backyard or put it in a safe deposit box, you still have risk that the value of your savings will suffer from the effects of inflation as well as opportunity cost when you don't do something productive with the savings. Trying to eliminate that risk by putting the savings into an investment or a savings vehicle that returns above the inflation rate introduces the other risks.
