Birds of a feather. Its actually an ironic insight into Adam Smith's character.

In his book "Wealth of Nations" Smith calls John Law's System "the most extravagant project both of banking and stock jobbing that, perhaps the world ever saw."

Yet in the same book he adopts most of Law's ideas as his very own. Perhaps Smith's comment was intended as a compliment.
