"Murder" is just a word in the same sense.

What matters is the deliberate attempt to harm someone by spreading things you know are false information.
That's what slander is.

Slander-libel I guess are the same thing legally.
Close. Slander is strictly oral. Libel is in print.

If Kerry wanted to I'm sure he could sue and win against Drudge and others.
I'd suggest you need more education. The law is a bit different for public figures. You must show not only that the information was false and was harmful, but also that the intent was clearly malicious. If Kerry was slandered, then you have libelled Bush more times than can be counted.

I'm sure he's tempted to
It is genarally about the stupidest move a public figure in politics can make. It not only shows an undesirably thin skin, but it spreads the libel even more because of all the media attention the trial gathers, AND you stand an excellent chance of losing because of the high barrier. At the end you can have more people knowing about it and believing it because you lost in court.

Maybe all non-rightwingers should sue Anne Coulter for calling us all "traitors". The biggest class action lawsuit in history. (fantasizing)
Be my guest. We'll laugh our a**es off. And even more when the suit is thrown out by the first court.

Here. Get some education.
