Crazy day indeed. Had some index calls but sold most eod and started legging into shorts. GM had a year's return... in a day - bipolar and now hyperactive too! -g- GM got an upgrade which doesn't surprise except it's not up much on that yet. Suspect it might have a bit more upside with many still wanting to short but how much higher does it go after closing the big gap down from March before the overhang of losing investors from years past becomes too great? Kerkorian is one smart dude, his trading of IMCL impressed me - it would even impress Martha Stewart, lol!

A GM break up could make sense but it is so far off if at all, imo. Should be next year before Kerkorian gets directors on the board via proxy, and imo the unions would use what political clout they have to fight any major change, not to mention the exec GM suits probably being pissed. My instinct is to say this is classic Kerkorian jawboning to get out of a losing position, BWDIK? There were other ways for him to scoop up shares before making a public bid. Now if someone else like an Icahn type or some major fund gets involved then it will be very interesting short term, otherwise any shakeup will take a while to play out.

If you want to see the permabull case for the market check this link out someone mailed to me. Not worth your time to read the whole thing except for comedy value, but let me give you the executive summary:

1. "Bubble after bubble in an ongoing bubble boom"

2. 12k+ on DOW by 2006

3. 38k DOW by 2010
