I agree with you about the outrageous cost of stuffed toys, particularly the collectible ones. Most of the bears and other cute furry animals at Goodwill range from 99 cents to about three dollars, and they pretty much unused. I used to think giving people teddy bears was a sweet gesture, but now I see most of them get sent to Goodwill straight away! I guess I am more sentimental than most. One animal I won't give away is Celeste, of Babar and Celeste from the Babar children's books. She is a very cute elephant in a dark pink dress, and she sits on my bookcase. I loved those books when I was a child, and read them all to my daughter when she was little, so it is something we are passing along from generation to generation. I have Babar, as well, but he must be in a box in the shed because I have not seen him in the several years since our last move. I do hope Celeste is not lonely!
