But those are very difficult things to earn, and often you have to earn them the hard way. Even the things his critics point to and criticize, like Kerry testifying about atrocities in Vietnam, are in fact just more evidence of Kerry's mature, selfless honesty. Not many veterans were brave enough to stand up and admit that the policy-makers in charge of the Vietnam War were sending them into battle to do some needlessly horrendous and immoral things. Like free-fire zones, Agent Orange and wiping out entire villages suspected of being VC sympathizers. Some vets say Kerry never should have "ratted them out" by airing vets' atrocity stories, but as every Christian knows, before you can cleanse your soul, first you have to confess, repent and ask forgiveness. Since Kerry's own gunner mowed down two innocent people, John was guilty by association. He could have carried that shameful secret to his grave. But instead, he wanted America to know the truth, as evidence for how wrong that war had become. Thirty-five years later, as a result, our military operates in a much mroe ethical manner which we can be proud of. But back in Vietnam, we lost our way. The problem with some people is they'd rather cover up sins than confess and deal with them. I understand that. Nobody wants to feel bad about himself or his country. But when things are going really-really wrong and tens of thousands of Americans are dying horrible deaths, it really matters and only confessing helps stop the madness. In other words, it's terribly difficult and painful, but still it's the right thing to do. Hey, didn't Bushies applaud the whistle-blower at Abu Graib? Yes they did, although one wonders if they were sincere. Since then, Kerry has a record of always fighting hard for veterans and military families rights and benefits. Just the oppposite of what Bush has done. But some people will never forgive John for exposing the dark secrets of the Vietnam War. In fact, many deny the atrocities ever happened to this day. Maybe that's why they feel compelled to make up so many lies about John Kerry. Because they hate the truth and fear the truth. But deep down they all know.
