Every founding father warned us against the religious right of their day, and so did Barry Goldwater the founder of modern American conservatism. Reagan only sucked up to the religious right because he had to. They were the only ones who'd help him get over the hump. In those days the Bushes were elitish New England preppy pro-choice moderates. GW Bush's whole pandering to the religious right is phony, but it worked. The propblem is, now he owes them almost everything and they expect him to pay them back with our civil rights and freedoms.
