I know plenty of people who have gotten burned shorting the home builders. The tide will turn against them certainly but timing is important. The mania has certainly lasted longer than I expected. Two years ago a friend of mine suggested I buy a house 100 miles from my home as an investment. I looked at the statistics of the area: high unemployment, not so great schools, and low income. I thought there would be better areas to buy. She bought her house initially for $165,000 and sold two weeks ago $325,000. Net profit less realtor fees etc. roughly $160,000 on an initial down payment of $35,000. Aaaarrrggghhhh.

The homies were pretty strong all day, imo because of the HOV report.

WCI hasn't had much giddyup lately.
