They ran out of real estate in Texas in the late '80s.
A lot of well-connected folks made out like bandits.
The S&L fiasco.
Hint:
Barron's has a little something in its Market Laboratory section called John B. Levy & Co. National Mortgage Survey, which tracks the spread between CMBS and treasuries.
So shorting junk bonds (or mortgages, soon to be the same thing) while long Treasuries makes sense for hedge funds.
All I would know to do would be to buy leap puts on lenders in the hottest markets.
And I imagine those premiums already are sky high.
