Steve Altman, QUALCOMM President-Elect, skillfully adressed these questions at yesterdays QUALCOMM Spring Analyst Day: QTL -Frequently Asked Questions • Will QUALCOMM successfully sign royalty bearing WCDMA license agreements with the Chinese manufacturers for sales in China? • A certain company [Samsung?] is contending that it will renegotiate QUALCOMM’sroyalty rates. If true, what impact will this have on the licensing program and how will QUALCOMM be able to successfully maintain its licensing program long term? • Will QUALCOMM successfully sign royalty bearing TD-SCDMA license agreements with the Chinese manufacturers for sales in China? • Is each licensee’s subscriber unit royalty rate for WCDMA and TD-SCDMA the same or greater than its rate for CDMA2000? • We have heard that the combined royalty rate for WCDMA could be high if others collect royalties. If so, how can QUALCOMM maintain its royalty rate for WCDMA when others are claiming patents for WCDMA? • We have seen reports that conclude that QUALCOMM owns less than a majority of the patents claimed essential for WCDMA. Q: If they buy ASICs from us, then they get the pass-through rights to ERICSSON's patents... essential patents. If they do not buy ASICs from us then they will have to talk to ERICSSON about any patent portfolio that they have.
