You confuse political expediency with moral righteousness. No wonder you're a rightwinger. The Republicans are painting themselves into a corner catering to the worst ideologies in the US: fascism and fundamentalism. They are both totalitarian regimes which is why Frist is pushing the nuclear option as if his life depended on it. Apparently he believes his political life does depend on catering to these unconstitutional, undemocratic ideologies. The Soviet Union, the Inquisition, Hitler, Stalin are all gleefully clapping that their heirs have taken over the Republican party. If it doesn't clean up its act from within, it will never recover from this particular disease. When did the Republican party so lose its way?
