Yes, I believe you are correct on that point. I believe that, later in life, Einstein did come to the conclusion that the Universe must have been designed by a higher intelligence.

As far as I'm concerned, Intelligent Design is far more plausible than Creationism. Creationism is easily dismissed because we know from massive scientific evidence that the world and universe are billions of years old. Creationism is a nice fable and religious belief, but doesn't come close to standing up to scientific analysis.

Intelligent Design, while not particularly supported by scientific evidence at the moment, is certainly plausible and needs to be considered as an alternative explanation for life on earth. The key is that Intelligent Design is also not necessarily refuted by scientific evidence like Creationism is. You can't easily dismiss it as pure poppycock. Certainly, everything man has in his life was created by his own intelligent design, it's not hard to imagine we were as well. But, if proponents want to put this alternative explanation forward, they better start providing some evidence, or it's just another religious belief.

Oh and by the way, one thing the Jesus Freaks tend to leave out of the Intelligent Design argument is that the designers weren't necessarily GOD, it could have been another life force from another galaxy (i.e. Aliens). That possiblity has been raised by some.
