It comes down to a simple fact. Bush and the Repubs don't want to pursue alternatives to the foreign oil trade. It's their #1 money making scam. So, they'll use all sorts of arguements for why why can't raise fuel efficiency standards or why we can't pursue alternative energy. The problem is, technology progresses, even if their feeble minds don't, so they are morphing into modern anti-technology ludites. Too bad, technology has a way of evenutally overcoming political obsticles.
