Rock_nj > the results I saw showed that he blew away the Conservative yesterday, it wasn't close

Actually it was far closer than the results show. In fact, Labour did not even obtain 50% of the votes.

In terms of votes cast (so far), Labour has achieved 35.2% of the poll, Conservatives 32.3%, Liberal-Democrats 22.1% and others 10.4%. This shows clearly that more people, in fact nearly twice as many, have voted against Labour than for it (35.2% versus 64.8%)

If one then factors in the very low poll (61% of voters), what one finds is that the Labour government goes into power with only 21.5% of the electorate behind it. (35.2 X 61/100)

So, as you see, one can't say too much about British "democracy".
